Scenario and goals

Following the global corporate restructuring and reorganization intervention requested of us (see also "Case 3" in "Redefinition of Organizational Structure"), the multinational BN, decided to analyze the operational processes of the logistics area. The intervention, which also involved Administration and Information Systems, was geared toward the following objectives:

  • Mapping the main procedures of goods handling; 
  • Identify any critical issues amenable to elimination;
  • Support the relevant corporate staff in implementing the corrective actions necessary for the elimination of the above-mentioned critical issues.

Process steps

1. Mapping the main procedures of goods handling.

2. Identification of critical issues and possible solutions with respect to each mapped procedure

3. Sharing, with corporate management, of the proposed solutions and defining, the related work plans.

4. Project Management of the entire project and "sub-projects" initiated as a function of the activity in the previous point.

Actions

Interviews with managers concerned with the procedures in question and collection of documentation, in order to gain sufficient knowledge of the existing manual and computerized modes of operation.

Results

Process optimization, has enabled the company to achieve significant efficiencies in terms of smooth operations, resolution of time to market and time spent managing and eliminating inventory anomalies.
